昔年，狼侍卫们曾是老凌虚子的贴身随从。他们使得一手极好的长柄斧，在群妖中素负盛名。
自黑风大王从南海归来，重建山场，他便收留了许多从狮驼国流浪而来的狼妖。这让黑风山本处的狼妖们多有不服，黑熊精便许诺以救活老凌虚子为补偿，众狼妖只好暗自忍耐下来。未料，老凌虚子苏醒不过几日，就失了踪迹，再也无人见过他。黑熊精得知此事后，却并未追查，反让那狮驼国来的苍狼精，顶替了老凌虚子的坐席，并赐名为灵虚子。
此举激起了狼妖们的满腔义愤，接二连三发起了多次聚众声讨。不料，狼侍卫们却在黑熊精的授意下，将出头闹事的小妖们悉数拿了。灵虚子对着这些小妖凶性大发，要吞吃了他们。幸得刀狼教头广智急急赶来，这才护住了同类性命。此后，在灵虚子的安排下，每队巡山的小妖们都以狼侍卫为伍长，小妖们自此再也不敢反抗灵虚子。
